THE MEMPHIS READS QUESTION: MARCH 2012

Lots of books are adapted into movies. Sometimes this is a great thing; other times, not so much. As an avid reader, I often watch the film adaptation of a book to see if the characters are what I imagined them to look like. Most of the time, the film industry does not let me down. But there are times I cannot believe the industry and I read the same story.Memphis Reads wants to know: Are there any books that have been made into films where the characters look exactly the way you imagined? What about characters that are completely opposite of what was in your imagination?

A friend and I were just talking about this last night. Two of James Patterson's books, Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider, were made into movies and their choice for Alex Cross didn't fit my vision of that character at all. -Darletha
Daniel Radcliffe, in my opinion, is exactly what J.K. Rowling wanted Harry Potter to look like. (especially when he was younger!) I am curious if the actors the film industry has chosen for the HUNGER GAMES will match what I have imagined everyone to look like. I guess I'll have to wait, just like everyone else, for the movie to come out.
I saw "The Help" and thought the characters looked and sounded much as I imagined them from the book. A friend enjoyed the movie, as well, before reading the book.

I actually saw the movie, DRIVE, last weekend but have not read the book. It was only when I watched the Director's Commentary after the movie did I realize "Irene," who was played by young, fair-skinned, blonde Carey Mulligan in the movie, is actually Hispanic and older than "Driver" in the book.
