[News and Notes] New Year, New Digital Services

Happy New Year!

Ready to try out your new or upgraded electronic device? Take a look at our newest digital media collection offerings.

Freegal downloadable music service

Freegal offers “free and legal” downloads of millions of songs and thousands of videos from ten thousand different record labels, including all those of Sony Music Entertainment.

Once registered on the site, a cardholder can download up to three songs every week. (One music video counts as 2 songs.) These tracks are free of DRM (digital rights management) and never expire. You can download music from the web site directly to your personal computer (Windows or Mac), and mobile apps are also available for iOS and Android devices. View Freegal’s FAQ page

Axis360 downloadable e-book service

Axis360 offers hundreds of popular titles from Scholastic Books (The Hunger Games, The 39 Clues, etc.) and other publishers that have been previously unavailable as e-books. Our Axis360 collection has children’s and teen titles, as well as materials for any age group that have a strong graphics component (cookbooks, how-to, etc.).

All titles are compatible with virtually all PCs, tablets, smartphones, and other devices, with the notable exception of the most basic (black-and-white) Kindle e-readers.

OneClickdigital downloadable audiobook service

OneClickdigital is provided by Recorded Books. Users will need to download the OneClickdigital app, which is available for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android, as well as for Kindle Fire and Nook color tablets. Titles can be downloaded direct to a mobile device and should play on virtually all MP3 players.

Each service requires a library card number and PIN. There are checkout limits for each service but they are not included in the number of materials checked out from library branches.

Go to www.memphislibrary.org and click the Mona Lisa “eBooks & eAudiobooks” icon to begin searching. The start page has a handy information guide with more details.
