[Book Review] Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers

Fiction/Inspirational

Reader’s Advisory Review - Inspirational Fiction

Nakia reviews REDEEMING LOVE by Francine Rivers (Multnomah, 2007)

Being reluctant to read my first piece of Inspirational Fiction, imagine my surprise when I quickly discovered that this would probably be one of the best books I’ve ever read.  This book is utterly heart wrenching!  This flawless tale is based on the Biblical story of Hosea and Gomer.  However, the story is not preachy at all.

Francine Rivers tells the love story of Michael and Angel, a couple whose relationship endures it all – pain, triumphs, disappointments and unconditional love.  Angel, a broken, bitter prostitute marries Michael, a patient, gentle farmer who loves Angel unconditionally as she struggles with the demons of her past (child rape, abandonment and prostitution).

Parts of the book were really difficult to get through without tears.  Just when you think things couldn’t get any worse, something else happens that just breaks your heart all over again.  Nonetheless, it is still a beautifully written story and one of the best books I have EVER read!!!
