[News and Notes] April 16, 2013

In late March it was announced that the book-based social site Goodreads is going to be purchased by Amazon. Criticism of the merger included opinions from the founder of LibraryThing and author Scott Turow.

Viewers who are enjoying the History Channel's "Vikings" miniseries should try suggested titles from their education guide.

The Orphan Master's Son, by Adam Johnson, won the 2013 Tournament of Books


The finalists for the 2013 Romance Writers of America's RITA and Golden Heart Awards are out.







The book shortlist for the 2013 Arthur C. Clarke Award (for science fiction published in Britain) are available here. The winner will be announced May 1st.

Two Clarke Award nominees available at the library are 2312 by Kim Stanley Robinson and Angelmaker by Nick Harkaway


Apocalyptic Planet by Craig Child won 2013 Orion Magazine Award. This award is given "to a book that addresses the human relationship with the natural world in a fresh, thought provoking, and engaging manner."
