[Quick Picks] Black History Month: Push
PUSH by Sapphire
This is a powerful story about illiterate, pregnant 16 year-old Precious Jones who is having her father's second baby. She has been ignored, mistreated, and abused by her so-called parents and the Harlem Board of Education. This easily could have been a horrible tale of Precious' struggles and upsets; but instead, author Sapphire shows readers how Precious rose above her circumstances to become well-educated and an excellent mother to her two young children. Everyone should read it because the story teaches readers that no matter how horrible our plight may be, we all can overcome and achieve miracles.
