Green Spring Cleaning

The Today show recently presented a segment with Julie Edelman, author of The Ultimate Accidental Housewife. Edelman provided cleaning tips using basic household items. Cleaning with simple products such as vinegar, salt, or even artificial sweeter is safer on the environment and friendlier on your budget.

Earth Day is Thursday, April 22. The library offers a wide selection of books on eco-friendly cleaning, including a few listed below. In honor of Earth Day, add a little "green" to your spring cleaning regimen.

Green Housekeeping: in which the nontoxic avenger shows you how to improve your health and that of your family while you save time, money, and, perhaps, your sanity by Ellen Sandbeck (Scribner, 2008)

Clean: the Humble Art of Zen-Cleansing by Michael DeJong (Joost Elffers/Sterling, 2007)

Sara Snow’s Fresh Living: the Essential Room-by-room Guide to a Greener, Healthier Family, and Home by Sara Snow (Bantam, 2009)

Whole Green Catalog: 1,000 Best Things for You and the Earth by Michael W. Robbins (Rodale, 2009)
