Jonathan Alter Guest Speaker For Library Fundraiser

Jonathan Alter, Senior Newsweek Editor and Columnist, will visit the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library on Saturday, November 4, 2006. Alter will be the guest speaker at a gala fundraiser called After Hours celebrating the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library’s Fifth Anniversary. Alter, in addition to writing an acclaimed column, has recently released a new book, The Defining Moment: FDR’s Hundred Days and the Triumph of Hope. Alter will discuss the book as well as current events. Audience members will have an opportunity to ask questions and have copies of the book signed by the author.

The program starts at 7 p.m. and will feature a wine and specialty beer tasting, elegant dinner, and great live music.

If you missed either of the books recently published by Memphis Public Library & Information Center employees (Historic Photos of Memphis or Mayor Crump Don’t Like It), you will have a chance to purchase both books and have the authors to sign your personal copies.

The event is $100 per person; tables of eight can be purchased for $700. Proceeds benefit the Memphis Public Library & Information Center collection.

For reservation information, please call 415-2834.
