DURING BOOK SIGNING EVENT

Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at 6:00 p.m.

Imogene Joyner has rescheduled the autobiographical book signing event for her book A Life of Many Tales at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library, for Tuesday, September 12, 6:00 p.m. A Life of Many Tales chronicles her journeys which are punctuated by several encounters and experiences beginning with her childhood in Tipton County, TN.

Joyner attended Lambuth College in Jackson, TN during the 1950s. During her time at the college, she began a pen-pal relationship with Hee Ho Lee of South Korea. The women remained life-long friends; however, neither could have ever imagined back then that Hee Ho would become First Lady of Korea.

After graduating from Lambuth, she attended Scarritt College and earned a Master of Arts degree. Soon after leaving Scarritt, Joyner was commissioned as a missionary to the Belgian Congo. In 1960, when all American citizens were evacuated from the Congo, Joyner returned to Memphis and held various jobs and was even certified as a cyto-technician!

For Joyner, it has been an interesting life – and she is sure to share ‘many tales’ about life in the Congo and the social and political practices of the Korean First Family at her book signing.
